Good week for financial literacy

The campaign for financial literacy must be working – three financial literacy bills moved this week:

  • HB 492 by Woolley (R-Houston), which mandates financial literacy education for high school students, was voted favorably from the House Public Education Committee on Tuesday.
  • HB 900 by Chavez (D-El Paso), which requires that workforce development programs provide training in financial literacy, is on this coming Monday’s House Calendar.
  • On Wednesday, the Senate passed SB 851 by Shapleigh (D-El Paso), which mandates a financial literacy pilot program in public schools.
