TSCPA bills get started

TSCPA is supporting two bills during this legislative session.

House Bill 2144, just filed by Rep. Kino Flores (D-Palmview), amends the Texas Public Accountancy Act (included in the Occupations Code) to make it easier for out-of-state CPAs to practice temporarily in Texas. Texas is on the leading edge of a movement to facilitate interstate practice throughout the country. Senator Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) will be sponsoring the bill in the Senate.

House Bill 863 by Rep. Byron Cook (R-Corsicana) exempts CPAs from the requirement to have and distribute a privacy policy because they collect client’s Social Security Numbers. CPAs are already subject to stringent confidentiality requirements that go beyond a privacy policy and should be exempt from the redundant requirement. HB 863 was voted favorably from the House Business and Industry committee on Feb. 27 and now goes to the Calendars Committee to be scheduled for House floor debate.
