Beware IRS Scam

Well, it’s not actually an IRS scam, but a scam that claims to be the IRS.

If you get an email from the IRS requesting personal or financial information, it’s a phishing expedition. According to the IRS “the IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels.”

Evidently the hackers and spammers are reaching to new heights with web sites that mimic the IRS website, and according to IRS “The phony web page looks almost identical to the real one.” The IRS has a whole web page devoted to warning taxpayers to beware of scammers and phony websites.

Check it out, I hope it’s real.

Thanks for the heads up! I would contact the IRS immediately if this happened. I know a few people who had to deal with the IRS, in which they turned to the intelligence and knowledge of a tax consultant for IRS tax help.
