A first look at incumbents with primary election troubles

With the 2014 primary elections less than three months away, Texas Weekly is out with its first analysis of those contests.

TW rates races that have doubts about the outcome. Several races without incumbents are on their list, but they also list incumbents in various stages of trouble. They describe their ratings as the incumbent having “trouble coming through the door,” “trouble on the front porch,” or “trouble on the sidewalk.”

Here’s a list of some of the state legislative incumbents in “trouble.”

Trouble coming through the door:
    HD 59 J. D. Sheffield (R-Gatesville)
HD 76 Naomi Gonzalez (D-El Paso)
    HD 102 Stefani Carter (R-Dallas)
    HD 105 Linda Harper-Brown (R-Irving)

Trouble on the front porch:
    SD 16 John Carona (R-Dallas)
SD 25 Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels)
    SD 31 Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo)
    HD 6 Matt Shaefer (R-Tyler)

Trouble on the sidewalk:
    HD 4 Lance Gooden (R-Terrill)
HD 112 Angie Chen Button, CPA (R-Garland)
HD 121 Joe Straus, currently Speaker of the House (R-San Antonio)
    HD 115 Bennett Ratliff (R-Coppell)
